My Skincare Routine for Acne Prone Skin

Hi Everyone,
Today I wanted to share my weekly skincare routine to help those suffering from acne prone skin. Skincare doesn't have to be expensive and I feel these products do an excellent job at an affordable price! I hope you find this information useful and try this routine on yourself.

1. Cetaphil 16oz Cleanser 2 pack:Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, for normal to oily skin, 16.0 -Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2)

2. Cetaphil 8oz Clenser: Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, Normal to Oily Skin - 8 fl oz

3. Indian Healing Clay: Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Deep Pore Cleansing, 1 Pound

4. Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer 2.5 oz: Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer, SPF 30, 2.5 Ounce

5. Burdock Tea: Burdock Root Tea 1.02 Ounce 24 Bags

6. Burdock Capsules: Nature's Way Burdock Root -- 100 Capsules

Skin Type: Combination Skin

Cleanser: Wash your face to remove makeup, excess oil and dirt. I like to use Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser.

Steam facial: Steam facials are a great way to unclog pores, release toxins, and increase blood circulation. The warm humidity of the steam helps to soften the skin, loosen debris, remove bacteria, and makes skin more responsive to treatment. After steaming, your pores will be freed of impurities therefore allowing the ingredients of skincare products to sink deeper into the skin and work more effectively.

Note: Avoid steaming if you suffer from severe acne, rosacea or ultra sensitive skin. Steam facials are recommended for mild to moderate acne.
  • Boil 4 cups of either distilled or purified water in a pot.
  • Add 1/3 cup of fresh rosemary to help balance oily skin.
  • Let herbs steep for 5 minutes
  • Lean over the steam and place your face about 12 inches above the pot. Getting too close could scald your skin.
  • Drape a towel over your head to trap steam.
  • Close your eyes and steam you face for 5-10 minutes.
  • To steam your entire face sway your head from side to side.
  • Reheat the pot if water looses steam.
  • After steaming splash your face with lukewarm water
  • Gently pat dry with a towel.
Deep Pore Cleaning Clay Mask: Clay based masks are an excellent choice for oily skin as it removes excess oil. I’ve been using Aztec Secret Healing Clay for over 10 years and absolutely love it. It is 100% bentonite clay and works really well to clear up acne. The clay tightens as it dries pulling out reaming impurities stuck deep inside your pores. It can be used on your face and your back if you suffer from back acne as well.

  • Add a teaspoon of bentonite clay with equal parts apple cider vinegar
  • Pour clay in a glass bowl and mix with a wooden spoon.
  • Avoid using metal containers and utensils as this will decrease the clay’s potency.
  • Mix ingredients until it turns into a smooth creamy paste.
  • Apply a thin layer of the mask all over the face using your fingers or a flat foundation bush.
  • Wait 15-20 minutes for the clay to dry completely.
  • Rinse face with cool water and pat dry with a towel.
Moisturizer: I use to think that people with oily skin didn't need moisturizer as it would make the skin more oily. However, I later found out that moisturizer can actually help balance oil production. When choosing moisturizer it’s important to check the label for certain specifications. I always check that a moisturizer is oil-free, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic to ensure it won’t clog my pores. My personal favorite is Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer. This is an item I will always repurchase as it’s great for lightening brown spots, brightening skin tone, and blurring imperfections with natural light diffusers. It even provides sun protection with SPF30. What more can a girl ask for in her moisturizer!

Herbal Supplement: While it’s great to treat your acne on the outside it’s also important to cleanse from the inside as well. I use Burdook root which is a natural blood purifier that increase blood circulation to the skin and detoxifies the epidermis. This can be consumed as a tea or a pill depending on your preference.

Tip: Never over treat or over wash your face. This will just produce more oil which we are trying to prevent. Instead opt for oil blotting sheets to absorb excess oil throughout the day. My last tip is an oldie but a goodie and that’s to drink lots of water (to flush toxins out of your body), get a good night’s sleep and exercise.

And there you have it folks, my skincare routine for clean, beautiful, glowing skin! Xoxo Kari
